NIRS New Round Announcement: Jack’s Ridge

Scheduling issues have seen a rewrite of the calendar for the 2024 edition of the Generator Rental Services North Island Rally Series.

South Auckland Car Club have stepped in to provide the opening round of the series at the spectacular Jacks Ridge site in Whitford. Held in conjunction with the northern region rallysprint competition, the new event replaces the Piakonui rally originally intended for late April, with the revised date now Sunday 19th May.

NIRS spokesman Marty Roestenburg is delighted that SACC’s offer ensures the 2024 series will still provide six rounds.

“We pride ourselves on offering a variety of different styles of events for our regional competitors. Jacks Ridge was an amazing venue for the visiting WRC teams in 2022, and should provide a real test of skills for our local drivers.” “It’s probably particularly pertinent that this is the testing and training ground for Jack Hawkeswood, who has just won his first-ever round of the New Zealand Rally Championship.”

In July the GRS NIRS then moves to the undulating tarmac surfaces of Taranaki for Round 2, in an event that is already garnering interest from Targa crews. From there it heads up to the Far North for the much-anticipated inaugural Rally of Dargaville.

The second half of the season will see events based near Kihikihi and Tauranga, with the series once again winding up with the popular Waitomo clubmans rally, scheduled for 20th October.
